Softer by design

Raising a fabric's surface is an old finishing technique; wool cloth was once brushed with dried teasel heads to lift a soft nap. Modern mills do the same with rollers covered in fine wire, run over the looped back of a cotton knit. The result became the classic winter sweatshirt and hoodie.

How it's brushed

The fabric is first knitted with a looped back, then passed over rotating wire rollers that tease the loops into loose fibres. The more passes, the fluffier the pile and the more warm air the fabric can hold.

What it's made of

This version is 50% organic cotton, 50% recycled cotton.

How it feels

Plush and very warm on the inside, smooth on the outside, with a heavier hand.

Heavyweight hoodies, sweatshirts, joggers and cold-weather layers.

Caring for it

Wash cold inside out and tumble dry low; high heat flattens the brushed pile.
