Recycled Cotton
Recycled cotton is cotton that has already had a life, as cutting-room scraps or worn-out garments, shredded back into fibre and spun into new yarn. It keeps usable cotton out of landfill and reduces the need to grow more.

An old habit, rediscovered
Reclaiming fibre is not new: from the early 1800s mills in Yorkshire shredded old wool rags into 'shoddy' to spin again. What has changed is scale and sorting. Recycled cotton now lowers the footprint of everyday basics, usually blended with new cotton for strength.
How it's made
Textile waste is sorted by colour, stripped of buttons and zips, then mechanically torn back into fibre. Tearing shortens the fibres, so recycled cotton is blended with longer cotton to spin a strong, even yarn. Sorting by colour means many recycled fabrics need little or no new dye.
What it's made of
Typically a blend of recycled cotton and other fibers (such as polyester or other natural fibers), commonly 50-100% recycled cotton, sourced from textile waste, production scraps, or post-consumer waste.
How it feels
Recycled cotton reduces waste and water usage compared to virgin cotton. Often slightly less soft than virgin cotton but remains breathable, durable, and suitable for various applications.
Where it works
Ideal for Apparel (casual wear, outerwear), Home Textiles (throw blankets, cushion covers), Accessories (tote bags, backpacks), and Upholstery.
Caring for it
Machine Wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Air dry or tumble dry on low to avoid shrinkage. Avoid bleach (especially chlorine bleach) as it can damage recycled fibers. Low iron if needed to smooth out wrinkles.
Certification
Frequently certified by Global Recycled Standard (GRS) or OEKO-TEX® to ensure environmental responsibility and material purity.
