Born on the football field

In the 1920s American football players trained in itchy wool jerseys. Benjamin Russell Jr., whose family ran a knitting mill in Alabama, had a looser shirt cut from cotton knit for his team, and the sweatshirt was born. It moved from locker rooms to campuses and, eventually, into every wardrobe.

How the loops are made

It's knitted with an extra yarn floated across the back and tucked in at intervals, leaving small loops. Left as they are, the loops stay crisp and breathable. Brushed, they turn into fleece.

This version is 50% organic cotton, 50% recycled cotton.

Wash cold inside out and avoid high heat, which can shrink cotton loops.
