NETTLE DENIM
Nettle denim is woven with fibre from the stinging nettle, the same plant you avoid on a walk. Once processed the sting is long gone, leaving a strong, lustrous fibre that gives denim a distinctive texture.

A forgotten fibre
Nettle cloth has been made in Europe since prehistoric times, and it has been used as a stand-in when cotton was scarce. Hardy and easy to grow with little irrigation or pesticide, nettle is being rediscovered as a local, low-impact partner for cotton in denim.
How it's made
Nettle stalks are harvested and retted to release their bast fibres, which are cleaned and spun, often blended with cotton, into yarn. Woven as a denim twill with an indigo-dyed warp, it becomes a sturdy fabric with a subtle sheen.
What it's made of
Made from a blend of stinging nettle fibers and cotton. Nettle requires minimal water and pesticides and grows easily in poor soil, reducing environmental impact.
How it feels
Durable, breathable, and hypoallergenic. Nettle denim has a natural luster and texture, adding an organic feel. It’s soft but strong, with a unique texture that softens over time. Nettle fibers also have natural antibacterial and moisture-wicking properties, making it ideal for both comfort and durability.
Where it works
Ideal for Apparel (jeans, jackets, shirts), Accessories (bags, hats), and eco-friendly Home Textiles (upholstery, pillow covers). Nettle denim is popular in sustainable fashion due to its low-impact sourcing and unique feel.
Caring for it
Machine wash cold and air dry to preserve the fibers. Avoid bleach, which can damage the natural fiber structure. Low iron if needed; nettle’s texture naturally adds character to the fabric.
Certification
Often certified by eco-standards such as OEKO-TEX®, ensuring responsible and safe production.
