From stockings to parachutes

Wallace Carothers and his team at DuPont created nylon in 1935. Nylon stockings went on sale across the US in 1940 and sold out, and during the Second World War nylon replaced silk in parachutes. Recycled nylon came much later, as mills learned to turn waste nylon back into yarn.

How it's recycled

Waste nylon is collected, cleaned and chemically broken back down into its building blocks, which are re-polymerised and spun into fresh yarn with the performance of new nylon. Some recycled nylons are made by melting and re-extruding clean waste instead.

Recycled Nylon Collection is made from discarded materials such as old fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastics, helping to conserve natural resources and mitigating environmental pollution.

Recycled nylon is a durable, flexible alternative to virgin nylon, offering similar strength, softness, and stretch while reducing environmental impact.

Suitable for a wide range of applications

Caring for it

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle using a mild detergent to preserve the fibers. Air dry whenever possible; if using a dryer, set to a low heat to avoid shrinkage. Avoid bleach, which can damage the fabric. Low iron if needed; hemp cotton may have a natural texture that contributes to its aesthetic.
